Kevin Breen went to the hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Christmas day because of severe stomach pain.  His son had strep and gotten over it recently, so they tested him for that. It was negative.

They did a CT scan and found a huge sac of pus in his core.  It usually means there's a hole in an organ. But they couldn't find any.  His doctor had never seen anything like it.

It was getting worse.  He needed a ventilator. His organs were shutting down.  They were having to give him medicine that sent blood to his vital organs.

They finally determined it was an extremely rare case of strep. But by that time, the loss of blood to his extremities lead to dead tissue. They would have to be amputated.

But Kevin is determined to overcome this life setback and is surprisingly upbeat about it.  Read more here.
