Last month, a 15 year old girl named Cassidy Stay tragically witnessed the murder of her entire family. The brave young woman was only able to survive the horrific ordeal by pretending to be dead.
Three days later at their memorial service, she chose to quote Harry Potter fan favorite Albus Dumbledore's famous words,
"Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
Soon after, a Facebook page entitled "We Want J.K. Rowling to Meet Cassidy Stay" was created in hopes of helping her meet her favorite author.
Although the two did not get to meet face to face, Jo did take the time to write a letter to Cassidy as Dumbledore. She also sent her a wand and an acceptance letter to Hogwarts.
The Facebook group announced the wonderful news, saying:
"This afternoon, I talked to a friend of Cassidy's who confirmed that JK Rowling did, in fact, write her a personalized letter from 'Dumbledore' (hand-written with purple ink). She was also sent a wand, an acceptance letter to Hogwarts school with a school supply list, along with the 3rd book with JK's autograph. I'm so excited and ecstatic that we were able to make a difference! How wonderful. However, I still really want JK Rowling to actually meet her. We might just have to keep this page going until that actually happens."
How amazing is it that Jo took the time to do something like this!?
Naturally, the subject matter of the letter is likely to be incredibly personal, so a transcript of what the letter actually says has not been made public.
If Cassidy ever does decide to share it with the world, I'll be sure to post a copy here!
