Hidden City Under Tennessee Lake

Watuga Lake is hidden in the Appalachian Mountains close to the North Carolina border and it's BEAUTIFUL!

The man made reservoir was completed on New Year's Eve in 1948 - and there's a city underneath it! The original city of Butler was flooded to create the lake and the new city was moved farther up on the hill!

Since most of the shoreline is within the Cherokee National Forest and can't be developed on, the lake is mostly used for recreational purposes including boating, fishing and waterskiing.

If you're ever there on the 4th of July, houseboat owners do a boat parade!
