Police in Youngstown, Ohio have been bombarded with reports of "zombie raccoons" over the last couple of weeks, according to local CBS affiliate WKBN.
One man reported that a raccoon showed up during the day, stood up on its hind legs and bared it's teeth before collapsing on it's back...sort of like a zombie.
Rabies?
Not quite. It's actually a fairly common disorder called "distemper" that causes abnormal behavior in mammals. Usually, though, it stays local to a small group of animals and dies off on it's own.
While this video is not from Youngstown, a similiar incident was captured in Kalamazoo, Michigan
It's actually a sad story, as most captured animals with distemper end up having to be euthanized. So hopefully this passes very soon.
