Synchronous Firefly Display in Tennessee

posted by Robin -

I've always thought fireflies were absolutely fascinating. And it turns out that Tennessee is one of the only places where you can find a super rare type of firefly. When one of these fireflies lights up, all of the other ones in the area will do the same! So its basically a natural light show and its absolutely beautiful!

One of the best places to see this particular type of firefly is in the Great Smoky Mountains, specifically near the Elkmont Campground.

Unfortunately, this particular type of firefly only lives for about 3 weeks so it makes witnessing their magic even more rare! And guess what! The "season" starts in only a few days! The period where you can see the synchronous fireflies is June 7-14!
