In the United Kingdom, two women volunteered to play Santa in a holiday event. However, the Labour Councillor, Arun Chandran, wasn't too thrilled with the idea of having a female Santa Claus, stating
"There's no shortage of male volunteers to act as Santa Claus, so we should not permit a female volunteer to perform the role."He later went on to say,
"My understanding is that Santa Claus, otherwise called Father Christmas, is a male role."
The incident has caused such a debate that some people are now saying Santa shouldn't have a gender at all! In a poll by GraphicSprings, of 400 people from the UK and US, 27% of people believe that Santa should be referred to as either a female or gender neutral!
Okay, I'm sorry, but what? Why does it even matter? I hate to break it to y'all, but Santa ISN'T. EVEN. REAL. So why does anyone even care whether its a male or female?? Like, I'm honestly confused by this.
