Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell don’t believe in “the one.” The actor told Us Weekly that he and his wife come from a joint understanding that relationships take work.
“We don’t believe in The One. We don’t believe in the fairytale,” he told the website during an interview. “We don’t believe that you can meet someone and you have a perfectly matching personalities. We are opposites and it has taken a tremendous amount of work and therapy for us to coexist.”
Dax added that he doesn’t want fans to look at his marriage and think that they need to find it as something to emulate.
“My only fear is that people see us and think, ‘Oh, I just need to find my Kristen Bell.’ That’s not true. You’ll find your Kristen Bell but guess what, now the work starts,” he added. “[Relationships] are labor intensive. If you want them to last they are labor intensive.”
The pair are known for being honest when it comes to their marriage taking work. They tied the knot in 2013 after gay marriage was legalized and are parents to daughters Lincoln, 4, and Delta, 2.
