Officials in Georgia have arrested and charged two white men with murder, after they chased and fatally shot an unarmed black man who was jogging down a residential road February 23rd. An extremely disturbing cell phone video of the slaying sparked nationwide outrage this week -- especially because no arrests had been made.
Gregory & Travis McMichael told authorities that they saw Arbery running and believed him to be responsible for a series of break-ins in their Satilla Shores neighborhood. They then armed themselves and chased him down in their truck.
[The Glynn County Police Department said Thursday that it had no reports involving burglaries or home break-ins in the Satilla Shores neighborhood between Jan. 1 and Feb. 23.]
Ahmaud's family believes he was simply out for a jog when he was killed, and that he was the victim of racial profiling.
Today, May 8th, 2020, would have been Ahmaud's 26th birthday. You can honor his memory by running, walking or jogging 2.23 miles and posting about it with the hashtag #IRunWithMaud.
