Authorities in Shelby County have confirmed Tad Cummins was spotted at a gas station near Memphis.
The sighting was reported around 2pm in Collierville at New Byhalia Road & West Poplar Avenue - less than 200 miles west of Columbia, TN. When a deputy responded to the gas station, he reviewed surveillance and positively identified Cummins as the man on the tape.
UPDATE as of 3:50 PM: In a statement to News 2, Collierville Police Department said Cummins and Thomas were traveling in a white Chevrolet panel van with a ladder rack and possibly a blue or aqua-colored tube on top. Memphis police say that the van was seen at a Krystal's restaurant on Union Avenue in Memphis for several days - but Thursday afternoon, both Cummins and Thomas were spotted in the restaurant's parking lot walking east.
UPDATE as of 4:45 PM (NOT CUMMINS):
The TBI has determined a reported sighting in West Tennessee was not Tad Cummins or Elizabeth Thomas, spokesperson Josh DeVine said.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said it had positively identified Cummins from surveillance video at a gas station in Collierville, TN, on Thursday afternoon, but the TBI now says that sighting was unsubstantiated.
A white van spotted at a Krystal restaurant on Union Avenue in Memphis is not connected to the Amber Alert, Memphis police said.
Everyone is urged to remain vigilant and report any information or possible sightings to the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
