10 Reasons Wine Is Actually Good For You!

Here are some reasons why wine is good for you. As if we needed a reason to drink it anyways... ;)

1: Wine could preserve your memory. When researchers gave memory quizzes to women in their 70s, those who drank one drink or more every day scored much better than those who drank less or not at all.

 

2: Wine helps prevent clots and reduce blood vessel inflammation, both of which have been linked to cognitive decline and heart disease, explains Tedd Goldfinger, DO, of the University of Arizona School of Medicine. Alcohol also seems to raise HDL, the so-called good cholesterol, which helps unclog your arteries.

 

3: Studies find that people who drink wine daily have lower body mass than those who indulge occasionally; moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less abdominal fat than people who drink liquor.

 

4: Alcohol may encourage your body to burn extra calories for as long as 90 minutes after you down a glass. Beer seems to have a similar effect. But let's be real, wine is tastier!

 

5: Goodbye acne! Resveratrol is able to inhibit the growth of acne-causing bacteria longer than benzoyl peroxide. And it works even better when combined with benzoyl peroxide. So far, drinking the antioxidant is the best way to benefit from its properties. Topical application in creams has not been proven as effective – so imbibe your antioxidants in wine, fruits, and veggies rather than buying expensive creams. YES!

 

6: Studies show that moderate consumption of red wine can reduce the risk of colon cancer by 50%.

7: Just one glass of wine makes you more attractive to others, according to a study published in Alcohol and Alcoholism. Researchers think low doses of alcohol (very low) may give you a healthy glow and subtle smile.

 

8: French researchers set out to discover whether resveratrol, a component of wine (which has been linked to lower levels of bad cholesterol and protecting the lining of blood heart vessels) could help preserve muscle mass in astronauts. Why? Astronauts experience lots of health issues from the zero gravity inactivity.

9: It's legit: "All types of alcohol are central nervous system depressants, which means they depress brain activity and trigger a calming, sleep effect," says Cynthia Sass, MA, RD, CSSD, author of Slim Down Now: Shed Pounds and Inches with Real Food, Real Fast

10: Despite the high sugar count in grapes (and notorious "wine mouth"), both wine and grape seed extract may actually be good for your chompers, since they help rid teeth of plaque-causing bacteria, says the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry.
