I think we can all agree that women are AWESOME and it looks like the entertainment industry finally agrees!
We went ahead and made a list of some of the best girl power shows that you can binge watch on Netflix or Hulu!
Broad City (2014-) - watch on Hulu
Nothing is more empowering than seeing a show with not one, but TWO, female protagonists! Broad City is funny, witty, VERY weird at times, but most importantly real and not afraid to touch on every possible issue a 21st century woman may deal with in her mid-20s.
Parks and Recreation (2009-2015) - Watch on Hulu
No one loves and believes in her fellow women peers as Leslie Knope! She creates her own career, combats sexism with charm and ends up with a great guy (who OBVIOUSLY is as big of an equal rights advocate as her).
Sex and the City - Watch on HBO
Sex and the City may have been off the air for the past 10 years but it's still a classic full of women celebrating other women while navigating their careers and the New York City dating scene!
Jane the Virgin (2014-) - Watch on Netflix
Jane is a hardworking Latina woman who made a vow to remain a virgin until marriage...until she accidentally gets pregnant during a procedure mix-up. She has to learn how to be a mom, finish school and deal with romantic drama in both her life and her parents. The best part of the show is that not only is it a mostly female cast, but they're mostly Latina! That's the kind of progress we like to see in TV and film!
Girl Boss (2017-2017) - Watch on Netflix
Fictional shows are great and all, but how about getting inspired by a real life badass woman? Girlboss is based on the life of Sophia Amoruso who turned her passion for vintage clothing into a multi-million dollar empire and didn’t let anyone get in her way. And the best part…the show is produced by a whole bunch of BOSS women including Charlize Theron!
P.S. If you’re more into reading, you can read Sophia Amoruso’s autobiography, “#GirlBoss”
Veronica Mars (2004-2007) - Watch on Go90
Veronica Mars is another one of those throwback shows that’s been off the air for 10 years but we’re STILL obsessed with it. Not only does Veronica manage to make it through high school, but she freakin’ solves crimes at the same time! Talk about badass - the show was such a fan favorite that they made a movie 7 years after the show ended!
Veep (2012-) - Watch on HBO
Veep adds comedy to politics as it follows Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character as she starts as Vice President and campaigns to become President! Julia kicking ass and taking names as VP? Count us IN!
Younger (2015-) - Watch on TVLand
Liza is a 40-year old divorced mother who knows she can't make it in the publishing industry without being...well.....younger. So she creates a whole new life as a 26 year old! While most of us don't live double lives, there are other great themes throughout the show - such as managing your career, love life and motherhood. Plus, Liza has a great friendship with Kelsey (Hilary Duff!!) that just goes to show how vital female friendships are.
