One person has been killed and at least six others have been left wounded in a shooting at an Antioch church Sunday morning.
Officials are calling the shooting that happened at Burnette Chapel Church of Christ on Pin Hook Road a "mass casualty" incident.
Metro police responded to the call at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. The preliminary investigation shows the gunman shot one woman outside the church, killing her, before opening fire inside the church, injuring six people.
The gunman has been identified as Emanuel Sampson, 25, of Murfreesboro.
An usher confronted the gunman and was pistol-whipped. During the confrontation, the gunman was shot in the left chest.
Five of the shooting victims, as well as the gunmen, were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The gunman is under heavy guard and is believed to have non-life threatening injuries.
The usher who was pistol-whipped, along with the last shooting victim, was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center.
Metro police have not yet identified any of the victims, but did release that most of the injured are over 65 years old. There were no children in the church at the time of the shooting.
As of 1 p.m., unharmed church members were still being interviewed by officers.
Family members to meet up with the relatives who were at the church at the time of shooting at Beautiful Gate Church, located at 12316 Old Hickory Boulevard.
