Homeless Veteran Gave Woman His Last $20 When She Needed Gas

Kate McClure was driving in Philadelphia when she ran out of gas on the highway. A homeless man named Johnny knew something was wrong and walked up to the vehicle. He told her to lock her doors and that he would be back soon. Minutes later, he showed up with a gas can and gas so that she could make it home safe.

She went back to the spot where Johnny hangs out since she couldn’t replay him at the time. “I have been stopping by his spot for the past few weeks. I repaid him for the gas, gave him a jacket, gloves, a hat, and warm socks, and I give him a few dollars every time I see him.”

Kate found out that Johnny was very interested in finding a job and that he was an ammunition technician in the Marines and had been a firefighter and paramedic before getting hit by hard times.

She and her husband decided to start a GoFundMe page for his kind gesture. It has received over $289,000 to help get Johnny back on his feet.
