Peter Bignell of Tasmanian Belgrove Distillery had the idea of taking spat out wine from tasting events and turning them into spirits. He took 500 liters of wine from a local tasting event to a local distillery to start the process. “There were bits of bickies and cheese and the odd bit of beer in there,” Bignell told ABC Radio Hobart.
Twelve months later, the spit bucket wine was a new 80-proof spirit named Kissing a Stranger.
The distillery usually produces whiskey but this new spirit has a taste similar to brandy.
