Teenagers are taking the #TidePodChallenge and are biting and eating laundry and dishwasher detergent pods.
This disturbing trend is catching the attention of doctors and parents. Most of the packaging stats ‘May be harmful if swallowed’ yet kids are still taking this challenge. Most of them realize how disgusting the detergent tastes the moment they bit into the pod before spitting it out.
Dr. Alfred Aleguas Jr., managing director of the Florida Poison Information Center in Tampa had this to say about the dangerous trend.
“Swallowing even a small amount of the highly-concentrated detergent found in pods can cause diarrhea and vomiting. In some cases, some of the detergent could even find its way into the lungs and cause breathing difficulties. …They could find themselves in a life-threatening situation.”
Parents everywhere need to know about this and the kids need to realize how dangerous it is.
