Mayor Megan Barry Admits to Affair

According to The Tennessean, Mayor Megan Barry has admitted to having an affair with Metro Police Sargent Robert Forrest Jr., who was also in charge of her security detail.

It appears that the affair began after she took office, in spring or summer of 2016. The officer submitted his retirement papers only a few weeks ago, with his last day having been Wednesday.

The Mayor has taken full responsibility for the affair and issued an apology.

"This is about the fact that we had an affair, and it was wrong, and we shouldn't have done it...He was part of my security detail, and as part of that responsibility, I should have gone to the (police) chief, and I should have said what was going on, and that was a mistake"

The Mayor made the announcement to her staff this afternoon and plans to hold a news conference tonight at 7pm to discuss the matter further. According to Barry, she is no longer in a relationship with Sgt. Rob Forrest Jr.

"This is a bad day, and there's going to be more bad days, but this is not my worst day...And I know the difference between a mistake — which is what I made and I fully own — and a tragedy. And this is not a tragedy. And I want to regain the trust of Nashvillians. And I will continue to serve."

When asked if she plans to step down from her role as Mayor, she says she will not be resigning and will not take a leave of absence. She made her regrets clear and hopes to gain back the trust of Nashville over time.

"I know that God's going to forgive me, but the citizens of Nashville don't have to. My hope is that I can earn their forgiveness, and I can earn back their trust, and we can do the great work for this city that Nashville deserves."
