New Law Threatens to Jail Trick-Or-Treaters Older Than 12-Years-Old

Think back to the time when you would go door to door getting candy on Halloween. At what age did YOU stop going Trick-Or-Treating? Some say there is a certain age you should stop going. At what age do you think that is?

Well, bad news if you live in Chesapeake, Virginia. A new law just passed that involves kids going Trick-Or-Treating on Halloween. If you are over the age of 12 and you are caught trick-or-treating that kid over the age of 12 could be fined between $25-$100. Oh but that's not all, there is also a chance that child who is caught could be sent to jail for up to six months according to the city code.

Want to hear even more messed up stuff? If anyone is caught going door to door after 8pm no matter how old they are, it could land them in jail for 30 days!

Check out what the new code has to say about Trick-Or-Treating:

Chesapeake City code:

(a) If any person over the age of 12 years shall engage in the activity commonly known as “trick or treat” or any other activity of similar character or nature under any name whatsoever, he or she shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $25.00 nor more than $100.00 or by confinement in jail for not more than six months or both.

(b) If any person shall engage in the activity commonly known as “trick or treat” or any other activity of similar character or nature under any name whatsoever after 8:00 p.m., he or she shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $10.00 nor more than $100.00 or by confinement in jail for not more than 30 days or both.
