The film Bohemian Rhapsody and actor Rami Malek are up for a lot of Academy Awards Sunday. The film was fantastic. The music was obviously amazing. Some of the vocals were original Freddy Mercury vocal tracks. But none of them were Rami Malek, who told The New York Times, “No one wants to hear me sing.”
The voice of Freddy was actually Marc Martel of Canada. A former lead singer of a Christian band, Martel can do the unthinkable: recreate Freddy's voice to PERFECTION. Using natural born talent and super vocal manipulation and training, he can be the closest thing to a living Freddy Mercury. He was on American Idol, has sang for crowds of thousands, and is now heard in a movie nominated for 5 Oscars.
Just listen to this.
Whoah.
There are three things Marc WON'T DO to imitate the Queen lead singer:
- He won't grow his mustache
- He will never wear the iconic yellow jacket
- He'll never use the classic half-high mic stand Mercury preferred.
