Stranger Things Makes Netflix Ban Smoking

Did you binge Stranger Things 3 already? Was it so good, you wanted a smoke afterwards?

That's what Netflix is afraid of. Stranger Things was in the top 3 shows (more on the other shows in a bit) on the service where smoking characters are featured prominently. So Netflix has agreed to stop showing charcters smoke in shows rated for audiences 14 and below.

This statement was made to EW after an anti-smoking group released a report on smoking in tv shows:

“Netflix strongly supports artistic expression. We also recognize that smoking is harmful and when portrayed positively on screen can adversely influence young people. Going forward, all new projects that we commission with ratings of TV-14 or below for series or PG-13 or below for films, will be smoking and e-cigarette free — except for reasons of historical or factual accuracy.”

We're looking at you Hopper.

Stranger Things has been on the list of bad smoking influences since the start, but between season 2 and seaon 3, the smoking tripled.

The report says kids are twice as likely to start smoking if they're exposed to tv and movies with smoking charcters.

The other shows in the top three are....

Not surprisingly, Orange is The New Black.

But here's the shocker...

Fuller House! WTF?

Stopping the bad influences on Netflix is probably a good idea. Just remember, none of this will bring Barb back.
