Y'all, this whole "Storm Area 51: They Can't Stop All Of Us" thing is getting out of hand.
The viral Facebook event now has over 1,000,000 people marked as Planning to Attend on September 20 -- and the U.S. Air Force is officially warning that they "stand ready to protect America and its assets."
"[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces," Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews said in a statement.
FYI: Armed guards have permission to shoot trespassers on sight. Seriously.
One of the guys who originally created the event, Jackson Barnes, has since said that the whole thing started as a joke, and he has no intention of actually storming the infamous base.
"P.S. Hello ..U.S. government, this is a joke, and I do not actually intend to go ahead with this plan. I just thought it would be funny and get me some thumbsy uppies on the internet," Barnes wrote.
