The new mayor for Nashville won't be known for six more weeks. The top two vote getters were current mayor David Briley and John Cooper. In order to win the right to be mayor of Nashville, you have to get more than 50% of the vote. Neither did, so these two men will face each other in the runoff election in September.
While many thought David Briley had the upper hand in the election (seeing as he was the current mayor after Megan Barry was forced to step down after her scandals), he didn't get the most votes. Developer John Cooper got the most votes with 35%. Mayor Briley got 25%. While she won't be in the run off, Carol Swain came in third.
