McKamey Manor in Summertown, TN is billed as the world's scariest haunted house. There's a prize of $20,000 if you make it all the way through. No one ever has.
The cost to go through? A bag of dog food for his 5 dogs. (huh?)
Wait till you hear about all the things you have to do BEFORE you get into the house.
These are the things you must do:
- sign a 40 page waiver
- complete a sports physical
- pass a drug test
- provide proof of age 21 or older
- provide proof of medical insurance
Oh, and then you must watch a 2 hour video of people failing the challenge inside the haunted house and quitting by saying the phrase "I really don't want to do this." The video is of every person who opted out from July 2017 to August 2019.
Russ Mckamey completely admits it's mostly "mind games" and hypnotism that makes their minds turn on them.
"When I use the hypnosis I can put you in a kitty pool with a couple inches of water and tell you there's a great white shark in there, and you're gonna think there's a shark in there," he told WFLA-TV.
Some research has shown us the same man closed up the same operation in San Diego. One person filed a lawsuit saying she was suffering from PTSD, but the suit was tossed because she signed the waiver. He has now set up shop at a farm about an hour's drive from Music City.
The McKamey Manor has been featured on episode 8 of Dark Tourist on Netflix.
