This is not the news Game of Thrones wanted to hear. The prequel, called "The Long Night" starring Naomi Watts has been canceled by HBO. I know, I know. It makes you want to put HBO execs on the kill list.
The Long Night would have taken place thousands of years before Game of Thrones. Some say the source material was thin and the much-maligned HBO writers would have had to come up with much of the scripts.
But the good news is, the other series is based on Martin's book Fire and Blood.
This sounds a lot better. It happens just a few hundred years before Game of Thrones, and centers on the fall of the Targarean empire and DRAGONS! Bring on the dragons. I want them now.
