A new Star Wars movie is in the works and we'll have confirmation of that sometime tonight.
Here's what we know so far. Word came out Friday that Disney has handed the keys to the Star Wars franchise to JD Dillard and Matt Owens. It's not known yet if the movie will hit silver screens across the United States, or go directly to Disney+. But we do know this. This movie will not be part of the original set of franchise characters like Luke, Rey, and Princess Leia.
We also know that this movie has nothing to do with the reported rumors of a pitch from Kevin Fiji, chief creative officer of the Marvel universe. Dillard has a resume filled with smaller, probably unknown sci-fi flicks. But Owens has been working on projects you might be familiar with, like Luke Cage, Agents of SHIELD, the Defenders.
The new film is set to take place on the remote desert planet of Exegol. This is the planet you saw in Rise of Skywalker, where Emperor Palpatine head out until he could restore himself. Not much is known about this planet, but it's tourism board hasn't been very effective, as it only lured Palpatine's daughter to come visit.
Until we hear more Monday night, you can check out the latest season of clone wars on Disney+. And don't forget there's an Obi-Wan Kenobi series and more episodes of the Mandalorian on the way.
