A perfectly healthy 43 yr old nurse (with no underlying health conditions) wants everyone to know how Covid-19 ravaged his body.
He said in his Instagram post:
I wanted to show everyone how badly being sedated for 6 weeks on a ventilator or intubated can be. Amongst other things, covid19 reduced my lung capacity with pneumonia. Over 8 weeks I’ve been away from family and friends Getting stronger everyday and working to increase my lung capacity. I’ll get back to where I was in healthier ways this time....maybe even do cardio 😱. #covid19 #caronavirus #recovery #godblessmynurses
He told Buzzfeed news he woke up after being sedated and a ventilator doing his breathing for him. He thought he was unconscious for a week. The nursing staff told Mike Schultz he had actually been there for 6 weeks!
Mike was a physical specimen as he worked out daily before coronavirus hit. The pic on the left was taken about a month before he got sick. While struggling to breathe, his body lost 26% of it's mass. He hadn't eaten solid foods yet when the second photo was taken. He was only able to stand for a minute.
In early March, he and his boyfriend attended a Winter Festival in Miami Beach when their were no restrictions and people were just told to wash your hands and keep from touching your face. 38 people at the festival got the virus. 3 have died so far.
