A tragic traffic accident has taken the life of Brentwood Police Officer Destin Legieza was nearing the end of his shift this morning when another driver crossed over to the opposite side of the road and struck the officer's car. The 5 year veteran of the Brentwood Police Department is the very first in the city's history to die in the line of duty.

THP says a young woman driving her vehicle on Franklin Rd crossed the center line and hit the officer's vehicle. She was taken to the hospital and the extent of her injuries are unknown. An investigation is ongoing as to why she crossed the road (under the influence, distracted, medical condition, etc). If warranted, she could face vehicular homicide charges.

Officer Legieza is the first Brentwood officer to die while on duty in the history of the department. He leaves behind a wife and comes from a long line of law enforcement in his family.
