Mt. Juliet cops have a man in custody after they say he pointed a high-intensity laser at the cockpit of a passenger jet. Police first learned there may be a problem when a truck driver on I-40 reported seeing the bright laser pointed at the sky.
Soon after the tractor-trailer driver's report, police were called by BNA's air traffic control who relayed messages from a flight reporting a laser being pointed at the pilot's cabin of the aircraft. Obviously, this kind of laser has the possibility of blinding a pilot while trying to land a plane. The passenger jet that spotted the laser had 136 people on board.
A witness was able to direct police to the hotel where the man was arrested.
