Spirit Cancels Half It's Flights Again. American Airlines Cancels Too

For the third straight day, Spirit Airlines has canceled half of all it's flight in the United States, leaving even more passengers stranded. American Airlines, who has been canceling many of it's flights too, is also leaving travelers scrambling to find alternate ways to get where they're going.

Spirit, a low cost airline has been blaming the canceled flights on "technology outages" and weather at various times. American Airline's logs indicate that nearly 3/4 of the flights canceled were due to pilot shortages.

While most won't admit the cancellations are due to lack of employees, passengers are reporting that's what they're hearing from agents at the airport.

While airlines and their associated unions say it's not a shortage of attendants or pilots, this may have to do with the massive layoffs during the pandemic. The airlines went to Washington with their hands out asking for a bailout and got 25 BILLION dollars last year. Some news outlets say it was more like 50 billion. But they still got rid of payroll by eliminating employees. American Airlines led the charge laying off 19,000 employees.

Union spokesman Dennis Tajer told the AP, “It’s pretty simple. They don’t have enough pilots, and they don’t have modern scheduling practices to do more with what they have. Bad weather “hits every airline, but American is the last to recover. This has to change.”
