The Music City Film Critics Association has given a record amount of nominations to Jane Campion's western/tense thriller 'The Power of The Dog' in their annual nods to the best in film. The film, streaming on Netflix, received 10 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director – Jane Campion, Best Actor – Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actress – Kirsten Dunst, Best Supporting Actor – Kodi Smit-McPhee, Best Screenplay, Best Score, Best Sound, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing.
MCFCA is a group of 30 professional film critics in the Nashville area (disclosure: I am one of it's members). It was a decidedly diverse group of nominations this year. Some consensus formed around Dune, Kenneth Brannagh's Belfast, and Licorice Pizza, each getting eight noms.
Some other top nominees included the charming CODA, Tragedy of McBeth, Mass, A Quiet Place II, and the dark comedy Don't Look Up. They each earned 4 nominations.
Full nominations below.
MCFCA vice president Michael Compton added, "Once again the nominations encapsulate a large variety of films, from blockbusters to streaming options. These nominations reflect an outstanding year in film in terms of both quantity and quality."
