Chris Daughtry Reveals Cause Of Stepdaughter's Death In Tennessee

Singer and American Idol alum Chris Daughtry revealed what many suspected was the cause of the death of his stepdaughter. Hannah Price died in Fentress County, Tennessee several months ago.

According to a family statement made to PEOPLE, she died from suicide while under the influence of narcotics. They spoke of her long battle with mental illness. She was in and out of treatments centers for her issues.

The statement read:

"As Hannah got older, she struggled to find her footing and began using drugs and often found herself in abusive relationships. Just months after losing her biological father to suicide, Hannah was the victim of a crime and was shot in the face. We did everything we could to support her and get her the help she needed to recover from these tragedies and get her life back on track. We had just recently made plans with Hannah for her to seek further treatment and move closer to the family."

The morning Hannah died, she called family and said she was in fear for her life. She said she was physically abused by her boyfriend and also accused him of taking her car. The family had law enforcement do a wellness check on her. Fentress County PD left her place in the afternoon after determining she was "OK".

She was later found dead by hanging by her boyfriend, who dialed 911.

The death has been ruled a suicide and no foul play was involved.

"Hannah was a generous and loving person who wanted more for herself and others. She will forever be in the hearts and minds of those of us who love her," according to the family.
