Billionaire and 'Shark Tank' star Mark Cuban has opened an online pharmacy with a mission to save people tons of money on prescription drugs. Even if you have insurance, these prices may still be better than what your health plan asks you to pay. Some of the savings can be ridiculously amazing. The drug Imatinib, which retails for $2,502.20, costs $17.10 at this new drug online store.
The goal of his online pharmacy is transparency about it costs them to buy the generics from the manufacturers, how much they mark it up (15%), and other things like shipping ($5) and a pharmacist fee ($3).
They want what they call "radical transparency". The CEO, Alex Oshmyansky, said on the site:
“There are numerous bad actors in the pharmaceutical supply chain preventing patients from getting affordable medicines. The markup on potentially life-saving drugs that people depend on is a problem that can’t be ignored. It is imperative that we take action and help expand access to these medications for those who them most,” he said.
They don't take insurance. Your doctor can send the prescription directly to them. To see what meds they offer and the prices, go here.
