Tennessee Legislature Passes Spanking Bill, Policy to Affect Public Schools

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Legislature voted 28-0 to pass a bill that bans the spanking of children with disabilities at public schools.

The bill came after the state comptroller's office released a report showing that children with disabilities were disciplined at a higher rate than those without them over the last few years. 

If signed into law by Governor Haslam, the measure would keep school officials from using corporal punishment on students with disabilities, unless their parents give written consent.
