Top Five Things to do in Nashville for Black History Month

Besides Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day and President’s Day the entire month of February is devoted to the celebration of Black culture, Black History Month. During this month there are plenty of things to do locally in Nashville. Here's a few you may want to save the date on!

History + Hot Chicken (February 7)

Join the people of Urbaanite put together a special curated tour of the galleries by Jamaal Sheats, Fisk Galleries Director of artwork of historical campus of Fisk University and an addition of fun tasting of a new take on hot chicken. Art work includes collection from W.E.B. Dubois, Georgia O’Keefe to local artists.

15th Annual Black Affair (February 7)

One of the biggest events in Nashville during Black History Month is the Black Affair. Host Robert Higgins is adding even more for this year’s celebration. Music by Chicago’s own Sean Mac, Grammy Nominated Tay Keith, and Young Thug’s official DJ, DJ Cash, not to mention a free food buffet.

Whiskey with Friends Outing (February 22)

One of the best kept secrets in Middle Tennessee is the Nearest Distillery. If you’re a fan of Jack Daniel’s you’ll definitely enjoy the whiskey, as the first African American master distiller and slave who taught Jack Daniel to make whiskey. Located in Shelbyville, Urbaanite will be hosting a special trip that includes transportation, a tasting, tour of the distillery and food by a local chef and 10% off at the Uncle Nearest gift shop.

Murals + Brunch Outing (March 7)

Music City, Tennessee is filled with great art. You can find so many murals along the way and specifically this tour takes you along select murals by Black Nashville mural artist’s, DoughJoe and Norf Studios work.Besides a great tour, you can also enjoy a brunch by a local chef and wine while browsing the latest artwork at Woodcut. This is a great extension to Black History Month, in March.
