Voter Registration Spikes Because of Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been known to avoid airing her political beliefs at all costs. But this week, she posted a lengthy Instagram post (with the comments disabled) about how she did not support Marsha Blackburn's campaign for senator. She even stated that she would personally be voting for the democratic candidate Phil Bredesen as well as Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.

After her post on Sunday, Vote.org experienced an "unprecedented flood of new voter registrations nationwide" with a total of 65,000 registrations in a single 24-hour period. In contrast, only 190,178 new voters were registered in September and 56,669 in August. She urged Tennessee voters to visit the website to get informed and registered before the October 9th deadline. Vote.org is a nonpartisan website and they do not track the political parties of those who register.
