One of America's Most Notorious Mob Bosses Killed in Prison

James "Whitey" Bulger, one of America's most notorious mob bosses was killed in a West Virginia penitentiary this afternoon, after being transferred there from Oklahoma earlier this morning.

Whitey Bulger was the leader of a violent South Boston crime ring known as the Winter Hill Gang over the span of 20 years starting in the 1970s. In 1995, Bulger was tipped off that the FBI was looking for him and fled. This put him on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list until he was captured in 2011. He was convicted for participating in 11 murders across the country, along with racketeering.

The 2006 movie "The Departed" was about Bulger and won an Oscar for Best Picture for that year.

His death is an ongoing investigation at this time.
