Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S., claiming the lives of over 47,000 people in 2017. What’s more is an estimated 1,400,000 people attempt suicide each year. Suicide among veterinarians, specifically, has become a growing problem. In fact, veterinarians are up to 3.5 times more likely to die by suicide than other Americans.
Join us and BluePearl, a national provider of emergency and specialty veterinary services, as we walk to bring suicide out of the darkness on Saturday, September 21st.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Out of the Darkness Walk begins on Saturday at 10 am at Two Rivers Park. The event, which ends at approximately 11:30 am, aims to help the AFSP reach their goal of reducing the annual suicide rate by 20% in 2025!
