Middle Tennessee Closures and Rescheduled Events for Safety Concerns

As COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has begun to spread across Tennessee, there are several local closures, including canceled and postponed events.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS:

Metro Nashville Public Schools:

Metro Nashville Public Schools is closed this week for Spring Break, and will re-assess the situation later in the week.

Dickson County Schools:

  • Closed until further notice, all activities suspended

Rutherford County Schools:

  • All Rutherford County Schools to close for one week starting Monday, March 16. All schools and school-related activities will also be closed.
  • Field trips and sporting events involving students or facilities will be put on hold and rescheduled if possible.
  • Murfreesboro City Schools will be closed March 16 through March 20. The Extended School Program will also be closed during this time.

Williamson County Schools:

Dickson County Schools:

  • Dickson County Schools are closed for the rest of the week for deep cleaning after a family member of some students self-quarantined and is being tested for the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
  • Students won't have to get back to school until March 23, as spring break is this week.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools:

  • Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools closed from March 16-27 due to COVID-19 concerns (March 16-20) and Spring Break (March 23-27).
  • Travel – effective immediately, all school- or district-sponsored travel on for-hire transportation (charter bus, planes, etc.) for students and employees will be suspended through April 8.
  • Clarksville Academy will be closed March 16-31.

Robertson County Schools

  • Robertson County Schools are on Spring Break the week of March 16th-20th

Wilson County Schools & Lebanon Special School District:

  • Wilson County Schools and Lebanon Special School District closed for the week of March 16-20 amid COVID-19 concerns. All classes, activities and programs are canceled.

Christian County, Ky. Schools:

  • Christian County Public Schools will close Monday, March 16 through April 10th.

Smith County Schools:

  • Closed from March 16-27 for COVID-19 and Spring Break. Students will return on March 30.

Sumner County Schools:

  • Spring Break will be extended an additional week, March 23-27.

Vanderbilt University:

  • Vanderbilt University is fully switching to online and alternative classes for the rest of the semester. All undergraduate residential students must make plans to move out by March 15.
  • The university said this is out of an abundance of caution after a Vanderbilt University Medical Center healthcare provider tested positive for COVID-19.

University of Tennessee:

  • The University of Tennessee is temporarily suspending all in-person classes starting on March 23 until further notice in response to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
  • University of Tennessee Interim President Randy Boyd made the announcement Wednesday in consultation with chancellors at UT Knoxville, UT Chattanooga, UT Martin and the UT Health Science Center.
  • UT Chattanooga will suspend in-person classes until March 30, while UT Knoxville and UT Martin will suspend in-person classes until April 3. UT Health Science Center will offer all face-to-face lecture classes remotely. Clinical rotations in hospitals will continue as usual.

Belmont University:

  • Spring Break for Belmont University students will be extended through March 22 with no academic activities taking place.
  • Starting on March 23, all classes will resume in an online-only capacity for at least two weeks.

Middle Tennessee State University:

  • MTSU will be extending its Spring Break one week amid coronavirus concerns. They are expected to return on March 23.

Trevecca Nazarene University:

  • Trevecca Nazarene University will extend its Spring Break and move to online-only classes until March 30 amid concerns over COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Nashville State Community College:

  • Nashville State, in coordination with the Tennessee Board of Regents, is closing the East Davidson campus in Donelson and the Southeast campus in Antioch on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 for hospital-grade deep cleaning. All other NSCC campuses will remain open.

  • Lipscomb University is on Spring Break this week. More details to come

Tennessee State University:

  • Tennessee State University is allowing students to return home and finish the semester online as a precaution to the spreading coronavirus. All residence halls and apartments will be closed March 21.
  • Online learning will begin March 16

Austin Peay State University:

  • APSU classes are being suspended until March 23, when students will be offered full online classes until further notice
  • Also canceled this weekend’s 36th Annual Candlelight Ball

Vol State:

  • Vol State is canceling classes for all locations for an extended Spring Break from March 16-21 due to COVID-19 precautions. This will include online classes
  • All Vol State offices at all locations will reopen to students and the public for normal business hours starting March 17.

OTHER CLOSURES

The Metro Board of Public Health has mandated closures or limitations in all bars and restaurants

  1. Bars on Lower Broadway and throughout Davidson County to close their businesses until further notice;
  2. Restaurants (public facilities where the sale of food comprises more than 50 percent of revenue) to limit their regular maximum seating to under 50 percent of capacity, capped at no more than 100 individuals allowed.
  3. Bar service at restaurants should be limited to 50 percent of capacity with no standing allowed.

Area Kroger stores will operate from 6am-10pm to allow employees to clean and re-stock each night

Walmart stores will be open from 6am-11pm daily

Publix stores will be open from 7am-8pm daily
