'Murder Hornets' Have Been Spotted in the United States for the First Time

Just when you thought that 2020 couldn't be any more of a sh** show....

...flying insects known as 'murder hornets' have been spotted in the United States [Washington state, specifically] for the first time.

Apparently these suckers are the largest species of hornet in the world, and can fly up to 20mph.

Oh, also their stingers can pierce through protective gear worn by beekeepers and they've killed an average of 50 people a year in Japan. SUPER CHILL, RIGHT?!?!?!?!?

Scientists reportedly don't know how they ended up here, since they're native to Asia, but hypothesize that they could have come over in international cargo. They're asking Washington residents to be vigilant and report sightings.

"If you get into them, run away, then call us! It is really important for us to know of every sighting, if we're going to have any hope of eradication," said entomologist Chris Looney of the state Department of Agriculture.
