Lawmakers Propose Bill That Animal Cruelty Be A Nationwide Felony

According to reports from the Orlando Sentinel, there are two Florida congressmen that reintroduced a bill making acts of animal cruelty and bestiality a federal crime.

This will fall under the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture act. People that are convicted of “crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating and impaling animals” and also sexually exploiting them could get up to seven years in prison.

Rep. Ted Deutch, D-West Boca, and Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota, have both sponsered the bipartisan bill. Also, the bill contains exceptions for normal veterinary care, hunting and conduct necessary to protect life or property from serious threat caused by an animal.
