'Squid Game' Director Compares the Series' Villains to Donald Trump

“Squid Game” director spoke about the inspiration for his successful Netflix series.

Hwang Dong-Hyuk says the villains in the series are the global elite,“just like Donald Trump.”Dong-Hyuk told Indiewire. When he began writing in 2018 there was a lot going on around the world from the Lehman Brothers crisis; the Korean economy was struggling and even he himself was struggling financially.

"And then Donald Trump became the president of the United States and I think he kind of resembles one of the VIPs in the Squid Game. It's almost like he's running a game show, not a country, like giving people horror. After all these issues happened, I thought it was about time that this show goes [sic] out into the world."

Netflix says “Squid Games” could be the streaming platform's most-watched series ever.

The success makes Dong-Hyuk nervous because he does plan on making a part 2 saying, “people would hate me if I don't make a season 2.”
