A medical marijuana bill went to voters in 2018 and was shut down, but two state politicians are working on another bill that would legalize medical cannabis in Tennessee.
The bill, championed by two Republican congresspeople, would make sales of medical marijuana to anyone with a medical card diagnosed for specific conditions.
One of the Senators introducing the bill, Janice Bowling, believes that the legalization of medical marijuana will help curb the opioid crisis in the state. In a statement, she says
When I see medical studies showing that states with medical cannabis programs had an average 23 percent drop in opioid prescription use and overdoses, I see a real option we can use.
