I'm going to start this by saying that Jim Carrey has always been one of my favorite comedic actors, so I have a little bit of a soft spot for him. That said, I'm going to do my best to give you a totally unbiased perspective on an interview that's going viral and causing the internet to "Cancel" him.
Carrey's been out promoting the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie - in which he plays the villain Dr. Robotnik - and as part of that promo he did an interview with Heat reporter Charlotte Long.
At one point in the interview, she asks what, if anything, is left on Carrey's bucket list
He responds "Just you," to which Long laughs and says "Wow. I don't know what to say to that!"
And because Twitter is, well, Twitter, there is a very loud percentage of people who are accusing Carrey of being sexist and creepy towards the young female reporter.
Now, maybe Carrey intended to be creepy and sexual with his comment. But if you watch that comment in the context of the entire interview, I think it's probably more of an innocent, playful comment implying that being interviewed by Long was the last thing on his bucket list.
There are certainly people out there that agree with that opinion
Even Wendy Williams took to her talk show this afternoon to disagree with the haters out there
To be honest, I'm getting pretty tired of this "cancel culture" that has cropped up over the last couple of years, where one wrong statement can be taken out of context and be used in an attempt to completely crush someone's livelihood.
But, that opinion aside, I really don't think Carrey was trying to be creepy here, and so far the reporter herself hasn't mentioned a WORD about the controversial statement. I think we should let HER lead the charge here. If she in any way felt offended or uncomfortable, than Carrey's joke was out of line. But until she says something herself, I don't think its anyone else's place to condemn the guy over something that quite frankly could be taken very differently depending on your point of view.
