It's no secret that the movie industry, like most entertainment options, has been decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Closed theaters, limited capacities, and paused production in Hollywood has led to a total dearth of product and almost zero interest in attending the theaters.
Regal Cinemas announced last week that they'd be closing all of their U.S. locations, and competitor AMC is now trying something new to get an influx of cash....theater rentals!
The chain is advertising "private movie screenings" for just $99 for friend get-togethers, celebrations, and birthday parties.
You can host a screening for up to 20 people (or, you know, just get away from the world and watch a movie alone on the big screen).
It's not really a "Choose your own movie", but the selection of newer films and classics is pretty strong - the new movie Tenet is on the list, as are spooky classics like Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Conjuring.
This actually sounds like a pretty cool date night opportunity or just a chance for you to get out of the house with your family...for honestly not much more than you'd be spending on a regular movie night. Check out the Rentals site here and find your nearest AMC Theater (there are 8 around Middle Tennessee) here.
