A toy that's been a household staple for decades is getting a name change. Or maybe, then again it's not.
Earlier today it was reported Toy maker Hasbro announced today that Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head will now be gender-netural, and simply go by the name of "Potato Head".
The move was applauded by LGBTQ+ rights organizations such as GLAAD. "Hasbro is helping kids to simple see toys as toys, which encourages them to be their authentic selves outside of the pressures of traditional gender norms," said GLAAD's chief communications offer Rich Ferraro.
But, just after 3pm EST today, in an apparent change of heart, Hasbro announced that no, in fact, Potato Head will still be Mr. and Mrs.
So which is it? And which one do YOU think it should be? I'm sure we haven't seen the end of this story.
UPDATE: It seems that Hasbro is dropping the "Mr." from the Potato Head BRAND, but will still have Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head figures as part of that umbrella.
