Who remembers Wabash Cannonball? I do!! I didn't grow up in Nashville, but a couple hours south in Huntsville, Alabama. For years, my family made it our summer tradition to come up and spend a day at Opryland. I was probably 9 or 10 the first time I rode Wabash Cannonball. It was my first "big" roller coaster. I was a little too freaked out to ride the Hangman, but Rock N Roller Coaster was pretty boring for me at that point.
So my best friend and I got in line for Wabash Cannonball. I mean, this was a REAL rollercoaster...that went upside down and everything! I've certainly ridden bigger, faster, and far better coasters since Opryland closed up in 1997. But Wabash Cannonball will always hold a special place for me because it was the first step on my journey to becoming a coaster enthusiast.
Anyway, News 2 shared a ridealong video from Wabash Cannonball, and MAN the memories are coming back watching this.
I can't believe how short it was!! For some reason when I was a kid I remembered it feeling a lot longer than that, but I guess that's the tricks that childhood play on us. Does this video bring back some nostalgia for you too?
