Carl Nassib Is The NFL's First Openly LGBTQ+ Active Player

You may not know the name Carl Nassib unless you're a hardcore football fan, but what he did today will cement him in the NFL's legacy.

Nassib announced on his social media that he's gay, marking the first time an active NFL player has come out as openly LGBTQ+.

Nassib is a defensive lineman who was drafted in 2016 by the Cleveland Browns. He currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders.

In his video, he says "I truly love my life and cannot understand why I have been blessed with so much. I feel especially thankful to have had so much support when many who came before - and many even now - do not. I stand on the shoulders of giants, incredible people who paved the way for me to have this opportunity. I do not know all the history behind our courageous LGBTQ community, but I am eager to learn and to help continue the fight for equality and acceptance."

He also announced a large donation to The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization that focuses on the LGBTQ community.
