5 Things You Can Buy With the $1 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot

With no one winning the Mega Millions jackpot last night, the estimated jackpot for Friday night's drawing sits at $1.02 BILLION. And that number could still go up.

ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

So, what could you buy with a billion dollars? Likely none of us have ever thought about it because the number seems so ridiculous. Your stock answers of "fancy house, fancy car, and travel" don't even really apply because you could buy a mansion, a fleet of luxury vehicles, and a private jet and still have hundreds of millions of dollars left over.

So, what could a billion dollars actually net you?

The Nashville Predators

Actually, you could own just about any NHL franchise you wanted. Only 8 teams in the league currently hold a valuation over 1 billion dollars, with the Predators currently estimated at a cool $600 million. So with a billion dollars, you could buy the Preds and probably STILL buy that mansion, luxury car, and private jet. Just promise to bring us a Stanley Cup, okay?

A Vacation In Space

Every time commercial space flight comes into the conversation, we all roll our eyes and say things like "Who could afford that?" Well, if you had a billion dollars...YOU COULD. Actually, you could send the whole family. And still have millions left over. The startup company offering commercial spaceflight - Axiom - estimates that your space vacation would cost $55 million. So you and your significant other could cash out $110 mil and have a nice little vacation far, far, away from Tennessee

A Private Island

Actually, take your pick here. Most private islands come in well under 100 million dollars.

Frozen Cay is an 83 acre island in the Bahamas with a 4,145 square foot residence, staff residences, a marina, protected lagoon, and fishing camp, and it's yours for 29 million.

The 400 acre Ile de Caille is available for 20 million in Grenada with 4 uninhabited homes and an airstrip on the island.

Even one of the most expensive private islands, Rangyai Island in Thailand, will only cost you a measley 160 million.

Controlling interest in a corporation

While a billion dollars doesn't make you Jeff Bezos, it can buy you a company...or at least controlling interest in one.

Eyewear maker Warby Parker currently is valued at $1.75 billion, which means you could become the majority shareholder with your lotto winnings. Casper Mattresses is valued at $1.1 million, and you could grab about 40% share in Lime Scooters, which is currently valued at $2.4 billion. On a smaller scale, you could outright buy grocery delivery company Zepto or Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine for a billion bucks.

Queen Elizabeth's Private Residence

You couldn't quite buy Buckingham Palace, but you COULD easily buy Balmoral Castle, one of Queen Elizabeth's private properties. It's estimated to be worth only $140 million.

If that's not your cup of tea, you could just splurge on the most expensive private residence in America. Nicknamed "The One", the $500 million mansion in Bel Air has 20 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, a 36-seat movie theater, a bowling alley, a 30-car garage, a nightclub, and five swimming pools over it's 100,000 square foot floorplan.

Obviously you could buy certainly buy your own private jet, a super-yacht (usually for around half a billion), and any car you could possibly imagine. You could even buy the White House (technically, although good luck getting the President to sell).

What would you do with a billion dollars?
