TikTok has been the root of some pretty great life hacks over the last couple of years. It's also been the source of some real stupidity, and this probably falls into the latter category.
A new trend on the app encourages "mouth taping" while you sleep, which is exactly how it sounds. You tape your mouth shut before you go to sleep, which forces you to breathe through your nose.

To be fair, there are actual health benefits. It's good to breathe through your nose. It produces nitric oxide, which widens your blood vessels and helps more oxygen circulate through your body.
That said, most experts say it's not a good idea to tape your mouth at night. If you get congested at night it could make breathing more difficult. Plus it can make sleep apena worse and up your risk for heart disease and stroke. Not to mention that your lips are pretty delicate and it might not be super safe to rip tape off of them every morning.
