License Plate Readers Have Been Approved For Use In Nashville

The license plate reader bill has been passed my Metro City Council. The council had passed 22 to 14, with one abstention.

Since the bill has passed, it will start with a pilot program that will last six months so that the council will have some time to look into the results. They're not positive it will be something that can be maintained for a long period of time.

Though the cameras are limited in what data they record the idea is that the cameras will capture information with every car that passes.

Nashville’s Community Oversight Board are not in support of the current bill as it’s written as there needs to be more oversight into what data is gathered and who has access to said data.
