Stores being open on Black Friday has always made sense to me. Go ahead, make money! But then stores started opening up on Thanksgiving night to give people early access to the best deals.
As someone that used to work in retail, I HATED having to work on Thanksgiving night. Like, why are you trying to ruin my holiday??
